After successfully completing training, four auditors of the Bulgarian National Audit Office have been awarded the only internationally recognized certificate of the Supreme Audit Institutions in the world for conducting performance audits. They had the support of two mentors who were awarded certificates of appreciation. Thus, they are now part of an international network of professionals in the field of performance auditing.
The certificate is issued by the Development Initiative of the International Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions - INTOSAI (IDI) for successful completion of professional training for auditors of Supreme Audit Institutions – PESA. It guarantees that the auditor has the best knowledge of the international standards of the Supreme Audit Institutions on which the Bulgarian National Audit Office also works; has a high level of professional judgment and the necessary knowledge and skills to promote and support the development of the audit activity by applying and sharing their experience in practice.
The certificates were presented to the auditors by the Acting President of the Bulgarian National Audit Office Goritsa Grancharova-Kozhareva and the Vice-President of the Bulgarian National Audit Office Toshko Todorov.
The awardees are from the Performance Audits Directorate at the Bulgarian National Audit Office and are: Dileta Kassabova-Tokatliyan and Nadezhda Nikolova - Heads of Departments in the Directorate, for their participation in the training as mentors, and the auditors Vania Petchova-Koster, Maria Koleva, Hristiyan Daskalov and Aleksandar Dimitrov.
Ms. Grancharova-Kozhareva emphasized that the public sector audit conducted by the Bulgarian National Audit Office is not only a professional duty of auditors, but also an important factor contributing to a positive change in the lives of citizens. For the audit work to be of a real benefit to the society, however, the auditors must maintain an exceptionally high level of competence, and this is achieved through continuous efforts to enhance the professional knowledge and skills. She especially expressed her gratitude to IDI and its Deputy Director General Archana Shirsat for the opportunity to conduct this training and for the overall support IDI provides to SAIs for sustainable improvement of their effectiveness and capacity. Ms. Grancharova encouraged more auditors to join the IDI training program.
Rossena Gadjeva, Director of the Performance Audits Directorate, expressed her satisfaction with the achievements of her colleagues, taking into account the benefits of their experience in conducting performance audits, in which is examined the real impact for the citizens of the management of public funds.
